Roland Fischnaller champion, almost can’t believe it: “More beautiful like this”
Another title in Roland Fischnaller’s rich trophy case.
Roland Fischnaller has given himself and Italian snowboarding another success: by winning the last parallel giant slalom in Rogla, Slovenia, in a historic tricolor hat trick that also saw Mirko Felicetti and Edwin Coratti on the podium, the veteran Italian won the Specialty Cup, replicating the successes of 2020 and 2021.
The lead in the overall standings came unexpectedly: in fact, Fischnaller took advantage of the defaillance of Austrian Prommegger, who was out in the round of 16, to make up the points gap in the standings and overtake his rival thanks to his success on Slovenian snow.
“A cup that came unexpected,” Fischnaller told official Fisi channels, “although I have to say that I received some pressure from my son in the past few days. We were in Val Senales on the open course and he, who is six years old, was telling me not to go too fast, to keep my energy for the race in Rogla that then I would win the Cup! Winning in such an unexpected way becomes even better: when you are in the lead from the first race there is always the weight of pressure, so instead I enjoyed an unexpected trophy.”
Fischnaller, in addition to his three parallel giant slalom titles, has won an overall World Cup (2020), three parallel slalom (2013, 2016, 2018) and six world medals, including gold in Kreischberg in 2015.
