Davide Ballerini chooses between Milan-San Remo and Paris-Roubaix
Davide Ballerini wants Roubaix, but doesn’t forget the ‘Classicissima’
Davide Ballerini, to the official channels of his team (Soudal Quick-Step), spoke about his upcoming goals on the eve of the big spring classics, admitting a certain preference for Paris-Roubaix over Milan-San Remo.
“I always have my eyes on Roubaix,” said the 1994-born athlete, “I have always loved this race. However, I have to say that it is a strange race, you need a lot of luck to be there in front. You have to be in the right place at the right time, I hope so but we’ll see what we can do at the team level. I simply hope to be in front at the decisive moment.”
As an Italian rider, however, Ballerini does not want to exclude himself from the fight to win Milan-San Remo, which will be raced on Saturday, March 18. “I’m Italian and that’s special, but the trend of the last few years is clear: it’s becoming more and more difficult, the climbers all come in front in the final stage and it’s not easy to keep up with them, they are lighter and after 280 kilometers of the race the legs feel the difference even in one kilometer of climbing. My role this year will depend on how I feel after Cipressa.”
