Monica Zanoner, first tricolor championship in La Thuile
Monica Zanoner
First tricolor shield for Monica Zanoner in the Italian Absolute Championships. The 24-year-old highlander from the Centro Sportivo Esercito won the Italian title in the women’s downhill that was staged on the La Thuile slope, stopping the clock at 1’04″26. The day’s beaters were the surprising 17-year-old Ludovica Righi (SC Edelweiss) from Modena and Nicol Delago (GS Fiamme Gialle), in second and third place respectively with a gap of 21 and 28 hundredths. Off the podium were Sara Thaler, Giulia Albano and Sara Allemand.
The race awarded the youth title (those born between 2002 and 2006), which went to Righi herself ahead of Thaler (SC Gardena Raiffeisen) and Vicky Bernardi (Centro Sportivo Carabinieri), the latter ninth at the finish line, as well as awarding useful points for the Dicoflor Italian Grand Prix, reserved for athletes not part of national teams.
