Marco Bezzecchi third at Portimao: his thanks to Valentino Rossi
A great podium, celebrated with irrepressible enthusiasm.
Marco Bezzecchi took third place at the Grand Prix of Portugal, the second of his MotoGP career. It was an unforgettable Sunday for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team rider, just back from the bitter outcome of Saturday’s Sprint Race.
“To start the season like this is special, what a race! I made a strong start, compared to yesterday I got a very good start – explained Bezzecchi -. I then waited a few laps, but I must confess that I pushed hard for at least 3/4 of the distance. When I was behind Jack (Miller ed) I was struggling with the front tire, I tried to pass him as soon as possible and then put myself in front alone to be able to enter the corners better. I pushed to open a gap on Alex (Marquez ed.) and those behind, and as soon as the tank got lighter I was able to go even harder.”
“The setting was great, the guys did a great job and I was able to manage the tire better. All credit to the team, to Ducati, they did so much during the pre-season, to Vale, without whom I wouldn’t be here and to all my family. I’m really happy, I had fun today,” Bezzecchi concluded.
