Carlos Alcaraz has decided to forfeit

Not only Rafael Nadal: Spain’s other tennis bigwig, Carlos Alcaraz, has also announced a forfeit for the Monte Carlo Masters 1000. The world number two, fresh from his spectacular semifinal match with Jannik Sinner, announced on social media that he has not recovered from the physical problem suffered in the third set of the super match with the Azzurro.

“I am happy to be back home after two months of matches, but at the same time I am sad that I finished the semifinal in Miami feeling pains. After a visit to my doctor in Murcia, and doing all the appropriate evaluations, I have decided that I will not participate in Monte-Carlo for the start of the clay court season. I have a post-traumatic arthritis in my left hand and a muscular disorder in my spine.”

Alcaraz could make his debut the following week in the Atp 500 in Barcelona.
