Heinrich Haussler retires: “Risks greater than benefits.”
Heinrich Haussler says stop
After more than 18 years on the international professional circuit, Heinrich Haussler has decided to retire from competitive activity effective immediately, making his farewell to cycling official on Friday, April 7.
The German-born Australian’s decision came after the outcome of some cardiovascular checks, carried out on the instructions of his team, Bahrain Victorious, which had shown “more risks than benefits” if he continued racing, as confirmed by the Middle Eastern team itself through an official statement. Haussler, in the same note, thanked the team, explaining that he had calmly made the decision to retire and that he wanted to begin the transition that would take him from bike to flagship, as sports director.
Born in 1984, Haussler also boasts among his successes a stage at the Vuelta (Alcobendas 2005) and one at the Tour de France (Colmar 2009). In 2015 he was the winner of the Australian Championships road race.
