Marc Marquez: Honda appeal, Carmelo Ezpeleta provides clarity
Dorna boss Carmelo Ezpeleta in an interview with As promoted sprint races, hastily introduced in MotoGp this season to increase interest around the World Championship: “It’s a format that people like, we have almost double the ratings in all countries during Saturday. We have ratings we haven’t had since before 2019.”
On the sanction to Marc Marquez (double long lap) and Honda’s subsequent appeal on moving the sanction to the first Gp in which the rider will return to the track, he expressed himself this way: “There are three judges, two appointed by the FIM and one by IRTA. The decision was also made immediately, but there was an appeal by Marc against the penalty and the FIM felt it was a legal issue and not a sporting one, so they referred it to the FIM Court of Appeal, which is composed of lawyers.”
“If it reaches the TAS, the decision will have to be postponed until there is a ruling with a precautionary measure. This is usually done, but I don’t know how it will go and when they will make their decision. If they require more time and there is a competition in between, the normal thing is that they will postpone the sanction.”
