Sofia Goggia vents: ‘This is the price to pay’

Sofia Goggia must come to terms with her physique: “I find myself with such fragile knees…”

Sofia Goggia in an interview with Oggi talked about how she has been testing her physique hard in recent years, making so many sacrifices: “I have asked so much from my body, I end up with such fragile knees, the cartilage of the meniscus is half of half, but this is the price to pay to stay at the top. Some times I get out of bed in the morning and feel my knees knead, I know I will struggle to do the stairs. I live with this feeling of physical pain in my legs, battered by injuries and operations, and it’s a frustration.”

The Bergamasque skier, however, has more difficulty living with emotional pain than physical pain: “The heaviest pains for me to deal with are the emotional ones. I struggle to close the wounds inside me, to heal them, it takes a long time. But my biggest fear is that of never being enough. On the one hand it is a purposeful drive to achieve my goals. On the other hand it is something pathological, my always feeling a little bit wrong, not being able to accept myself.”
