F1, Steiner goads Sainz and defends Red Bull
Steiner no pun intended: “It is not certain that Red Bull will maintain this lead until the end.”
After Carlos Sainz, Gunther Steiner also spoke out on the possible regulatory change to rebalance the situation given Red Bull’s demonstrated superiority. Unlike the Ferrari driver, the Haas team principal was against this decision, sticking up for the Milton Keynes-based stable.
“The sport is the main thing we have to safeguard. The spectacle is secondary, but I think it will take care of itself. We are expecting a very hard-fought season, where there will be no shortage of sparks between Checo and Max. I think the rules work. It is clear to everyone that Red Bull, at the moment, is superior, but there is no telling if it will remain so until the end. All teams will continue to work trying to find out how they became so strong and how to reduce the gap,” said the team principal from Alto Adige as reported by “Autosport.”
“You also have to take into consideration the fact that Red Bull received the budget cap penalty and will be able to do less development in the wind tunnel this year, so in theory they won’t be able to advance as much. They have done a great job, so you can’t blame the regulations. If someone works better than others, it’s only fair that they have an advantage; it wouldn’t be fair to make regulatory changes just because they are ahead of others,” added Gunther Steiner.
