Soccer in mourning: Franco Sattolo has died
The soccer world mourns Franco Sattolo. The former goalkeeper was 86 years old and passed away in Trieste. During his career he defended the posts of Fossanese, Ivrea, Sampdoria, Sambenedettese and Torino. With the granata Sattolo won two Italian Cups (1967-1968, 1970-1971).
This is the statement from Sampdoria: “Franco Sattolo, former goalkeeper, 115 appearances with the Sampdoria jersey, passed away in Trieste at the age of 86. Born in Rijeka (in Croatia) on Nov. 9, 1936, he emigrated as a refugee to Italy in 1948: Trieste, Marina di Massa and Turin were the cities to which he moved with his family and where he began to develop a passion for the game of soccer.”
“Having made his mark in Piedmont between Fossanese and Ivrea, he landed at Genoa in 1960 and, after a parenthesis on loan at Sambenedettese (1961/62), returned to the base to remain there until 1966, before moving to Torino. Despite dualisms with Mauro Rosin first and with Piero Battara later, he managed to enter the club of Blucerchiati centenarians and the list of the best Doriani extreme defenders ever. To the family the deepest condolences from the club.”
