The words of Gianmarco Tamberi

“World Championships in Budapest, European Championships in Rome and Olympics in Paris are stimulating me to death. The second part of my career has begun. It won’t last as long as the first, but in these last two years that I have left, I don’t want to have any regrets. I am much more focused on what I have yet to do, rather than what I have already done.” Olympic champion Gianmarco Tamberi talks about himself, between past, present and future, in a long interview on Atletica TV, the streaming platform of the Italian Athletics Federation.

“Obsession is the only way to get to do something really great. But Paris is a different obsession than Tokyo, which instead threw so many burdens on my shoulders. Now it is a positive obsession, there is a will to do something epic, it would really be a unique epilogue to a unique career. I’ve sacrificed so much for my jumping career, I’ve put my soul into it: trying to emulate Tokyo, dreaming of being the only one in the history of high jumpers with two Olympic golds, that’s the biggest incentive.”
