Melissa Satta says enough: furious monologue about Matteo Berrettini
Melissa Satta on “Le Iene” lashed out at criticism of her relationship with Matteo Berrettini. The showgirl, host of the seventeenth episode of the show in the prime time of Italia 1, in a heated monologue explained the feeling of being insulted because of her relationship.
“For a long time I have been the victim of insinuations and insults because of my relationship. At first it was just comments on social media, and you get used to those, unfortunately, but when my boyfriend was forced to withdraw due to injury from a tournament I realized that the problem was much bigger.”
“A major newspaper headlined, “Melissa Satta is bad luck.” A headline that is not only unacceptable but indicative of the deep-seated sexism that our society has internalized. “Cherchez la femme” wrote Dumas more than 160 years ago, and this expression unfortunately still describes very well the irresistible temptation, when something in a man’s life goes wrong, to blame his woman, the witch capable of draining him of talent and good fortune.”
“Have you ever read the opposite? Have you ever read in the newspapers a headline in which a successful man isÌ accused of bringing bad luck to his partner? I tell you: no, because no one has ever written that headline. This urge to blame, to destroy the other, isÌ the same urge that so many young people are exposed to every day on social media and that, as a mother, I do not want my son to ever have to know.”
“The next time you feel like writing a hate comment try to stop and think about why you feel that hate. You may begin to discover a lot about yourself and, perhaps, become better people.”
