Tennis, Dario Puppo pays tribute to Jannik Sinner
Tennis, Dario Puppo gets off the hook on Jannik Sinner: “He is ready for big goals.”
During the latest episode of “Tennismania” on Sport2u, Eurosport commentator Dario Puppo wanted to spend words of praise on Jannik Sinner’s performance in this beginning of the season. In addition, he also wanted to shut up the criticism received by the South Tyrolean.
“Going to Barcelona he won 26 matches losing only 6 in the season. At 21 years old, in the third millennium few have managed to achieve similar results: Murray, Djokovic, and Hewitt. I think Jannik is ready to achieve great results. Then there can always be some obstacle that stops him. One should not compare with other players, also because Alcaraz and Rune came at the perfect time in tennis, while Sinner won the ATP Finals Next Gen and then had to deal with the pandemic,” the technical commentator began.
“The decision not to take part in Madrid is proof that he is doing well: he no longer chases the calendar, but organizes the work based on the goals. The period between Paris and Wimbledon interests him a lot. He will also go to German tournaments, where he is very sought after. The German public wants to see him, and he is interested in having a longer grass season, so he can better prepare for Wimbledon,” the commentator added.
“I think tennis in itself is divisive. So is Sinner because of his last name and the way he plays, which not everyone may like. Why do we have to make these distinctions? We should consider ourselves lucky to have players like Jannik, Berrettini and Musetti who can compete on all surfaces. In Italy, one should focus on being able to play with the best with all three and not on the fact that one’s best player has an unclassical style of play,” concluded Dario Puppo. In short, Italy has a phenomenon on its hands and it should be pampered, not criticized for a few mistakes.
