Giro 2023, Primoz Roglic sees the glass half full
Primoz Roglic doesn’t flinch despite 43″ gap from Evenepoel
Primoz Roglic did not go beyond sixth place in the opening time trial of the Giro d’Italia 2023, paying 43″ behind the first pink jersey of this edition, Remco Evenepoel.
However, to the microphones of the Belgian newspaper “Sporza,” the Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma was not too upset: “Clearly, I would have preferred to start better than Evenepoel, but I am still satisfied with my performance because I did my best. I don’t think I have disappointed expectations, and then there are still three more weeks: there will be time to see who is faster.”
Roglic, a three-time Vuelta winner and Olympic time trial champion, is in his third participation in the Giro d’Italia: in 2016 he rode as a domestique finishing 58th, in 2019 he instead took the bottom step of the podium behind Richard Carapaz and Vincenzo Nibali.
