Gp Miami, chaos in Q3 as Leclerc hits wall: Perez takes advantage, Verstappen chews bitterly
Anything goes in qualifying in Miami
Anything really happened in Miami during the decisive qualifying sessions for the Grand Prix to be run on Sunday on the street circuit around Hard Rock Stadium: pole, in the end, went to Sergio Perez (Red Bull), who was leading with 1’36” to go in Q3 when Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) went against the wall, causing a red flag and, as per the rules, an early end to the session.
The mistake in his second launched attempt of Q3 will cost Leclerc the start from seventh place, but it went even worse, result-wise, for Max Verstappen (Red Bull): the Dutchman had also aborted the first attempt, but did not make it in time to finish the second, so he will start ninth.
On the front row, next to Perez, will be Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin), third the other Ferrarista Carlos Sainz who will start ahead of the surprising Kevin Magnussen (Haas). Disappointing Mercedes: taking advantage of alrui errors George Russell, who will start sixth, while Lewis Hamilton failed to pass Q2 and is even thirteenth.
