Internazionali d’Italia: Runes too strong, Fognini goes down

Stop for Fabio Fognini in the third round of the Internazionali di Roma: Holger Rune, world number 7, proves to be an insurmountable obstacle for the Ligurian tennis player, who succumbs in two sets with the scores of 6-4, 6-2 against the Danish rising star.

Despite the great support of the Foro Italico crowd, Fognini fails to repeat the fine performances againsto Kecmanovic and Murray, even in the face of a decidedly fit opponent who concedes very little. Rune will face Australia’s Popyrin in the round of 16.

Applause instead for Cecchinato, who overcame Bautista in two sets: he will face the winner of the challenge between Hanfmann and Fritz.
