Lamela and Suso upend Juve, Sevilla in final
Mission failed for Massimiliano Allegri’s Juventus in Sevilla. The Bianconeri were beaten 2-1 in extra time by the hosts, who qualified for the Europa League final where they will face Roma.
A first half full of chances, Sevilla attacked at the sharp end but the clearest chances were Bianconeri with a Gatti header in the 15th minute, Di Maria wasting in front of Bounou in the 27th minute, and Kean’s post in the 33rd minute. Allegri’s team was forced to do without Fagioli due to injury (possibly fractured collarbone, inside Paredes).
Same plot in the second half, Sevilla plays the game while Juventus goes in flashes. The changes made by the two coaches affect the match: in the 65th minute Vlahovic, who entered for Kean, finds the goal of the lead at the first ball touched, with a nice underhand shot that beats Bounou. Seven minutes later came the equalizer by another sub, former Milan player Suso, with a splendid left-footed shot from outside the box after a ball lost by Chiesa.
Going into extra time, Chiesa gobbled up the lead and in the 95th minute former Roma player Lamela found the winning goal thanks to a beautiful header off a Bryan Gil cross. In the second extra time another serious mistake by Chiesa under goal doomed the Bianconeri for good. Acuna’s expulsion in the final minutes of the match was not enough, Juve in the final siege failed to find the net.
