Internazionali d’Italia: Holger Rune in final, beats Casper Ruud in comeback
Internationals of Italy: Holger Rune in the final
Holger Rune, world number 7, is the first finalist of the Internazionali d’Italia at the Foro Italico. The young Dane after two hours and 42 minutes miraculously without rain interruptions beat Norwegian Casper Ruud, number 4, with a score of 6-7 6-4 6-2.
First set in which the only one who had to save break points was Rune, who cleared three in the sixth game, then in the tie-break Ruud flew 5-0 and closed on 7-2. It seems to be over when Ruud breaks at 2-2 and then goes to 4-2 but then suddenly loses four consecutive games also on the merits of the young Dane who drags the match to the decisive partial.
The third set is completely without history: Rune flies on the wings of enthusiasm, Ruud feels the blow of the vanished lead. The Dane makes the decisive breaks in the fourth and last games of the set and will now face the winner between Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece and Daniil Medvedev of Russia. For Rune it is the third final in a Masters 1000 after the one he won in Paris-Bercy last November with Novak Djokovic and the one he lost a month ago in Monte Carlo against Andrey Rublev.
