Jannik Sinner dejected: “Maybe I expect too much.”
Jannik Sinner analyzed in a press conference the surprising loss to Altmaier at Roland Garros after a match that lasted 5 1/2 hours. The South Tyrolean’s disappointment with the brutal defeat was evident: “Maybe I put a little too much expectation or pressure on myself. It’s really hard to digest, but it will keep going.”
“I couldn’t find a right way to win points, I was also unlucky, on match point I hit the tape. For sure I will come back stronger. In this sport you have to take opportunities, and today there were a lot of them, and I couldn’t take advantage of them.”
The criticism is well-rounded: “My attitude on the court was not as usual, I felt very prepared and mentally and physically I felt good. It’s hard when you work so hard and don’t get the result you hoped for. But sports is a marathon, it certainly doesn’t end there.”
The Finals remain the goal: “I want to return to Turin. Maybe in these tournaments I expected good results, and this is the result that came out. So I’m not the type that has to have very high expectations, this is what I think.”
