In Paris Marcell Jacobs cues: he is seventh

In the fourth leg of the 2023 Diamond League in Paris, Olympic 100-meter champion Marcell Jacobs took a mediocre seventh place in his outdoor season debut with a modest time of 10″21. The race was won in 9″97 by Noah Lyles of the United States.

These are Jacobs’ words, “I didn’t mind the first part, then I felt the concrete legs, we couldn’t do what we wanted to do, but I’m running and that’s what we wanted. Definitely it was a heck of a race to throw away, but I ran without discomfort and I will have a chance to train. That makes me happy.”

Three world records improved over the course of the meet. Kenya’s Faith Kipyegon broke the women’s 5,000-meter record a week after improving her 1,500-meter record at the Golden Gala in Florence. In 14’05”20, Kipyegon (29) beat the time of 14’06”62 run in 2020 in Valencia by Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey, second in tonight’s race in 14’07”94.

Finally, on the men’s 3000 steeplechase, Ethiopian Lamecha Girma, with an incredible 7’52″11, beat Qatari Saif Saaeed Shaheen’s 7’53″63 dating back to 2004 in Brussels.
