Gianmarco Pozzecco pulls the ears of the Italians

On the occasion of the Scudetto Finals, the Basket Zone podcast available on Spotify hosted Italian national team head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco. “It’s difficult to make a prediction,” he admitted, “What was seen in the semifinals says that these are two teams in good shape. They have struggled during the year to find the square but now they seem ready for the final. I think we should also talk about the owners: Zanetti, Armani and others. Basketball has people who are investing a lot, we insiders have to be able to take advantage in the most sensible way of what is made available.”

“Milan and Bologna did not surprise me, but they confirmed. Basketball is going in a different direction than we thought, we thought they could dominate small ball, and instead I think we are moving toward more and more physicality. So much so that the finalist teams are very physical because they have to face the Euroleague and they can use this advantage in the league as well.”

“7-game finals? No time to train? Let’s debunk this rumor: you get to a certain point and you don’t train anymore, at that stage your game system is already in place. If you have it, it’s good, otherwise individuality counts. In a final for me the psychological aspect counts a lot. We Italians are convinced that being an underdog is the best possible medicine, but the truth is that if you are favored it is better because you are stronger. Milan and Bologna are very well placed from this point of view.”
