Charles Leclerc, British hypothesis: “What if he prefers Alpine to Ferrari?”
A mere farewell hypothesis, however, formulated with copious explanations.
Charles Leclerc is looking forward to leaving Ferrari and signing with Alpine. This is what Peter Windsor, a former Williams executive, thinks, and he made his case in a video on his personal YouTube channel.
Windsor’s conviction stems from the difficult season Leclerc is having at Ferrari this year. The 25-year-old is 128 points behind Max Verstappen in the drivers’ standings, seventh behind teammate Carlos Sainz. The Spanish Grand Prix also proved to be a disaster for the Monegasque. He crossed the finish line in 11th place just outside the points zone, but even a comeback from eight positions did not help boost his morale.
“The most important figure in Ferrari is Charles Leclerc,” Windsor stressed. “No doubt, the guy will be incredibly frustrated and very upset. He would like the single-seater to improve as if by magic, or he might even consider a transfer. He might come to think that Alpine is better than the current lot in the Cavallino in terms of driving. Look at them, they are in the top 10 after every Q3 right now.”
“He might even think that. It may be that he’s that desperate,” Windsor added. Who then wanted to further explain his hypothesis: “I’m not saying Alpine is a horrible solution, let’s not decontextualize. All I’m saying is that Leclerc might be so desperate to change teams. Now it could very well be that Ferrari is slowly gaining some traction and some pace, and it looks like the next updates will be really efficient. But I think the problem with Charles is the relationship with around him, with the exception of Jock Clear.”
