Maurice Steijn is the new coach of Ajax
Ajax has announced the hiring of Maurice Steijn as its new coach to replace John Heitinga, whose contract was not renewed after the Lancers finished third in the Eredivisie, the Dutch top league.
The Amsterdam club explained that the 49-year-old Steijn, from Sparta Rotterdam, will sign a three-year contract. Steijn led Sparta to sixth place in the last championship after saving them from possible relegation the previous season. The financial details of the deal obviously have not been disclosed.
Ajax general manager Sven Mislintat explained that Steijn “has proven time and time again with his teams that he is a real star” and added that Steijn is now “ready for a step up, I am sure.”
