The San Marino Open Tennis Internationals dress up to celebrate the milestone of thirty editions. The organizational machine is working at full speed to set up an edition that is set to make its mark. New features of the tournament, which will be held at the Cassa di Risparmio Tennis Center in Fonte dell’Ovo from July 31 to August 6, were partly unveiled Monday morning at the preliminary press conference. It is not new, but a nice reality that has been known for a few months now, the category jump.

“For some time we had been meditating on organizing an Atp 125, the top level of the Challengers,” explained Federal President Christian Forcellini, “and we wanted to make this project concrete in the year of the 30th anniversary. We have signed a contract that commits us for the next three years and that will lead to an even higher tournament in terms of standard and quality of participants.”

One of the novelties announced, however, concerns the direction of the tournament, which, after being signed for years by Alessandro Costa, passes to Mahena Abbati, who had already been director of the Davis Cup organized on the Titan in 2019.

“I thank for the trust that the Federation has placed in me,” Abbati commented. “I am picking up a very important legacy, that of Alessandro Costa, whom I have worked alongside in recent years. The organizational machine is at work and, in fact, has never stopped. Every year we try to improve on what was done the year before. I would like to emphasize the importance of the tournament for a whole range of aspects. For us, it is an opportunity to invest in improvements for the federal center, for the benefit of the entire citizenry. It is a resource for the area that, as always, is giving an excellent response. Despite coming without some accommodation facilities, we manage to use entirely San Marino facilities, with excellent results in terms of hospitality. Lastly, this tournament employs many young people: the recruitment of ball catchers, line judges and controllers has already started.”
