Corrado Barazzutti unabashed about Camila Giorgi and women’s tennis
The words of Corrado Barazzutti
Italy’s former Davis Cup captain Corrado Barazzutti gave an interview to Adnkronos in which he did not mince words toward Camila Giorgi and women’s tennis. “Venus Williams was a champion but if she is still able to win matches on the major circuit at the age of 43, beating a top 50 player like Camila Giorgi, it indicates that the general level of women’s tennis has lowered,” he stressed.
“On grass, where the exchanges are short and against an opponent who shoots hard and often, sometimes too much, makes mistakes. This is the ideal situation for an athlete of a certain age. With few exchanges and fast court, a player like Venus Williams excels, also because from a technical point of view there is no question,” added Barazzutti.
Finally, he pointed to the favorites for the Championships: “Wimbledon? Iga Swiatek is one of the possible winners at the Championships. On grass, however, she has less margin over her opponents than at Roland Garros, and I think there are three dangerous players for her: Aryna Sabalenka, Karolina Muchova, and Elena Rybakina. The latter won the tournament 12 months ago.”
