Italy-France 1-2

Everything happened to Italy in its debut match at the European Under-21 2023 European Championship in Romania-Georgia. The Azzurrini were defeated 2-1 by France in a match punctuated by refereeing errors against the Azzurri.

In Cluj, Nicolato’s selection suffered in the 22nd minute the transalpine advantage signed by Kalimuendo’s backheel, on an assist from Milan’s Kalulu. Italy’s equalizer came in the 36th minute with Pellegri’s header, but in the 62nd minute a serious mistake by Udogie opened the way for Barcola to double the French lead.

What will be discussed, however, will be a penalty kick denied, a possible foul on the play that later led to 2-1, and finally a resounding phantom goal by Bellanova that was not validated (in the absence of VAR and Goal Line Technology).
