European Under-21 Championships: VAR from the quarterfinals. Paolo Nicolato’s opinion
UEFA has decided to introduce VAR starting from the quarterfinals of the ongoing European Under-21 Championships. In fact, there has been a lot of controversy especially for the refereeing of France-Italy, with the Azzurrini being defeated 2-1, and the day after the defeat, coach Paolo Nicolato is still regretful and is also regretful for this decision, which he considers late.
“A mockery the VAR from the quarterfinals? No, rather I consider it an improvement, but I would have preferred it to be there already last night,” Nicolato says. “In my opinion we confirmed ourselves as a team that deserves to be inside this competition. Now we need to work above all on our heads, because this experience must help us grow.”
Italy’s next opponent in the group stage will be Switzerland: “We have to bring out the best without taking refuge in complaints. And let’s hope that the god of soccer will compensate us,” Nicolato continued. “We know that with Switzerland it will be very difficult. They have many players who are starters in their respective clubs with great continuity, triple that of my guys. We have only one result and that does not make it easier for us.”
