Italy gets back on track: hard-fought victory with Switzerland
Italy Under 21 wins its first match at the European Championships: three days after the controversial defeat against France, Nicolato’s Azzurrini bent 3-2 against Switzerland in Cluj at the end of a very painful match.
A blazing first half for ours, ahead in the 6th minute with Pirola’s framing on Tonali’s masterful corner, and doubling it in the 11th minute with Gnonto again with a header on Bellanova’s cross. The Azzurrini dominated and came close several times to the third goal, then as the minutes passed the Helvetians grew and Carnesecchi was decisive on a few occasions. Before halftime came the trio of ours thanks to Parisi, who took advantage of a mistake by Blum to find the 3-0.
A shock start to the second half for Italy, which conceded two goals in a few minutes with Imeri in the 47th minute and Amdouni in the 53rd minute, both facilitated by defensive amnesias by ours. Nicolato’s team regrouped and the match remained in balance with many chances on each side. Final in pain with Males gobbling up the 3-3 on a counterattack.
Thanks to this victory, Italy rises to 3 points: they will play for qualification to the quarterfinals against Norway.
