Saudi Arabia also wants to get its hands on tennis
Sovereign wealth fund Pif sees sports as a great opportunity
After becoming imposing in the world of soccer, the Arabs are now strongly interested in getting their hands on the tennis product as well, particularly the ATP. The plan would be to acquire ATP shares. In this respect, reappointed ATP CEO Gaudenzi pointed out that “positive discussions” are underway.
Having failed its assault on Liberty Media (Formula 1), sovereign wealth fund Pif would be convinced to enter the world’s top tennis circuit. Some tennis players, such as Kyrgios, are absolutely in favor of the idea: “So we would be paid what we deserve,” the Australian tennis player’s words.
Already home to the Diriyah Cup event, Saudi Arabia looks set to take home the hosting of the ATP NextGen Finals as well, a new “showcase” to demonstrate the great ability to make the sport even more shining. What will happen in the near future and how many ATP shares might become the property of the Arab sovereign wealth fund remains to be seen.
