Austria qualifying, Charles Leclerc finally satisfied
“Good feeling to have clean qualifying and to be back on the front row again. My feeling has been improving in the last two races. Then in Q1 and Q2 I tried to build the lap to do then in Q3.” This is how Charles Leclerc explains his great day in qualifying for the Austrian GP that saw him come close to taking pole position.
“I managed to put together everything I wanted,” added Ferrari’s Monegasque driver, “right in the last lap and I managed to get very close to Max, but it wasn’t enough. But we didn’t expect to be so close to Red Bull and it’s a good result. I thank all the guys at the factory. It’s only qualifying, but the work they have done over the last two to three weeks to get the package ahead of schedule has been impressive. That helped us to have the good performance we saw today. But we need to replicate again tomorrow and Sunday.
“We are all very close, we had to put it all together today and we succeeded. The pace had also looked good in Montreal, but we need to work on consistency. Red Bull for now has always been faster on race day, but if we can put them in trouble we will do that and be happy,” Leclerc concluded.
