Camila Giorgi stops at the most beautiful in Eastbourne
Camila Giorgi: final in Eastbourne fades away
Camila Giorgi’s journey in the Eastbourne WTA 500 comes to a halt at the most beautiful moment. In fact, the Marche-based tennis player surrendered in two sets to Russian Daria Kasatkina (2-6 5-7) after almost an hour and a half of play.
The Russian started off strong immediately, winning the break in the opening set. Camila’s reaction is immediate but lasts very little: in no time Kasatkina threads four consecutive games and cashes the first partial set 6-2. In the second set the script seems the same but at 4-1 for Kasatkina, Giorgi wakes up and gets back into the match. On 5-5, however, she suffers yet another break that brings the Russian to serve for the match: Kasatkina does not tremble and closes on the first match point.
The curse in Eastbourne continues for the Italian: this is the third consecutive defeat in the semifinals. Moreover, Kasatkina confirms herself as a black beast for Camila: third defeat in as many meetings with the Russian player.
