Marco Baroni new coach of Hellas Verona
Marco Baroni is the new coach of Hellas Verona.
The former Lecce coach, who led to salvation last season, the Gialloblù club announced, has signed a one-year contract with an option for a second year. Baroni replaces the Bocchetti-Zaffaroni pair with which Hellas was saved after the play-off against Spezia won by the Scaligeri 3 to 1.
Born in Florence on Sept. 11, 1963, as a footballer Baroni also wore the Hellas Verona jersey from 1995 to 1998, collecting 93 appearances and nine goals with the Gialloblù between A, B and Coppa Italia, winning a Scudetto in 1990 with Maradona’s Napoli. Baroni, after also serving as Alberto Malesani’s deputy on the very bench of Hellas Verona in the 2002-03 season coinciding with relegation to Serie B, won the Serie B playoffs with Benevento in the 2016/17 season that earned the Sanniti team its first promotion to Serie A in its history. For the last two seasons, from 2021 to 2023, he coached Lecce: in the 2021-22 season he won promotion to Serie A, winning the cadet championship, and in the last one, 2022-23, he achieved salvation in the top division.
