Italy: Fontecchio lapidary on Banchero
Simone Fontecchio in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport spoke about his experience in the NBA for the Utah Jazz: “I would say positive balance sheet, I am happy with what I did. I knew it was not going to be easy, but I was prepared, especially mentally, for all the obstacles that presented themselves. I am satisfied, this year in the NBA behind me has given me more awareness.”
Paolo Banchero will not go to the World Cup with the Azzurri: “It’s not that I was particularly surprised. I honestly expected it would end like this. He hasn’t really made who knows what declarations of love for the Azzurri jersey or the Italian national team this year. When he has been exposed in the past, they were words of a 17-18 year old boy. That’s fine, we don’t lose anything, we take note and we are who we are.”
“Whoever comes to the national team must have something inside and be aware of what it means to wear the Italy jersey. A responsibility first and foremost and an honor.”
