F1, Verstappen cannibal in Austria. Ferrari on the podium with Leclerc
Max Verstappen’s dominance in Formula 1 continues: the world champion in Austria scored his fifth consecutive victory, laying down the law over the weekend at the Red Bull Ring and completing an unprecedented ein plein with qualifying, sprint race and fastest lap. On the podium with him was a reborn Charles Leclerc, who redeemed himself after Saturday’s difficult sprint race, and teammate Sergio Perez.
Fourth place for the other Ferrari driver, Carlos Sainz, who finished ahead of Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso. Sunday was a difficult one for Mercedes: Lewis Hamilton finished seventh and George Russell was eighth.
Thanks to this victory, Verstappen continues to sprint toward his third consecutive World Championship: the domination at Red Bull’s home track was overwhelming, so much so that the Dutchman could afford to change tires on the last lap to attempt (and then achieve), the fastest lap.
