Wimbledon, Matteo Berrettini wants to restart: “This place brings me joy.”
A participation to put the black period behind us.
Matteo Berrettini is at Wimbledon, from which he aims to restart after a season that he himself has described as cursed so far. The Roman has been outspoken about his prospects in London, admitting that even just being there gives him positive feelings.
“My spirit is very good, in spite of everything,” Berrettini told ‘Sky Sport,’ “This year seems marked by some voodoo rituals, however, this place brings me joy. Both because of memories that I have experienced and still carry with me, and because in my opinion it has something special. Obviously I don’t feel 100 percent in terms of preparation, physically, mentally. But I wanted to be here and play. So I’m happy.”
“I missed the competition, the adrenaline. Honestly right now I’m taking it one day at a time. Every day I try to figure out how I wake up compared to the work I did the day before. So I’m also facing Wimbledon one match at a time, one point at a time. At the same time I’m a player who comes into form with matches, and going forward I play better and better. This time, however, I come here knowing that I should not expect too much. But the desire to do well and be well is there,” Berrettini assured.
