Happy Casa Brindisi announced in a communicaro that it has signed a contract valid for the next two sports seasons with American guard Jamel Morris.
“A class of 1992 native of Ohio, he was a major player last season in Europe at Liektabelis, a Lithuanian team that finished third in the playoffs at home and fourth in the Eurocup round. Morris averaged 15 points in the two competitions shooting nearly 50 percent from two and 37 percent from three-point range.”
“With Liektabelis he has also distinguished himself by a clear and special feature: he has scored three buzzer-beaters during the season, including two in Europe against Venice and Bursaspor and one in the last playoff series against Jonavos to win third place in the league.”
“After completing his college career at Fairmont State, coached by current Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, in July 2016 he became the first American player in the history of Cestistica Civitavecchia. A first taste of Italy as a rookie, a country he will find again seven years later at the end of a long European professional journey: Croatia (Split), Poland (Legia Warsaw, 17.4 pt average and playoff semifinal), France (Orlèans), Germany (Mitteldeutscherm 5th top scorer in Bundesliga with 16.6 pts and 43% from three) and Lithuania (Liektabelis), interspersed in 2017/18 by a G-League season at the Grand Rapids Drive and subsequent participation in Summer League with the Detroit Pistons’ affiliated franchise.”
Sporting Director Leo De Rycke’s comment: “We are very pleased with the signing of Jamel, a player I had been following for years and who fits best into the roster construction. An athlete with undoubted qualities but who, above all, always has the word ‘team’ at the center of his thoughts. He has great experience in European basketball, a characteristic that can help us in different aspects of the game.”
