Lucia Bronzetti and Camila Giorgi break into the top 50

Last week’s excellent results rewarded the two Italians Lucia Bronzetti and Camila Giorgi: they both broke into the top 50, gaining 18 and 19 places, respectively. Bronzetti, a finalist at the Bad Homburg Open, now occupies the number 47 position in the world ranking; Giorgi, a semifinalist at the Rothesay International in Eastbourne, is one step below.

Slipping out of the top 50 are Alicya Parks (-4, No. 51), Danielle Collins (-4, No. 52), Linda Fruhvirtova (-4, No. 53) and Simona Halep: the talented Romanian is out of the small group for the first time since June 9, 2013, after a 10-year stay.

The Wimbledon tournament will again shuffle the cards: the hope is that the many Italian tennis players engaged on London’s grass will also use the opportunity to improve their rankings.
