Carlos Alcaraz doesn’t feel the best: the message to Sinner and Rune
Carlos Alcaraz: “I am not the best of my generation.”
Carlos Alcaraz spoke at a press conference after his three-set win over Jeremy Chardy (6-0 6-2 7-5) in his Wimbledon tournament debut.
On a rain-affected Tuesday, the Spaniard was one of the few who completed his match, “For me it’s very important. I think the players who play with the roof on Centre Court have more luck, let’s say, to be able to finish their matches. Not having to wait for rain is an advantage over other players. So for me it’s very, very positive to have finished the match and not to have waited for the rain.”
The world number one then stressed that he does not feel he is the best: “I don’t feel I am the best of my generation. I mean, [Jannik] Sinner is there. So is [Holger] Rune. They are playing at a very good level. I mean, he’s 1-0 in head-to-head against Rune. I mean, he’s ahead of me right now. Great matches with Jannik. I don’t feel like I’m the best of my generation right now. There are many great players my age…. We will share great moments. That’s all I can say right now.”
