Wimbledon 2023, Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek are already in the second round

With so many first round matches yet to finish, Novak Djokovic has already taken home his second round match of the Wimbledon tournament.

The defending champion beat with a score of 6-3 7-6 7-6 the Austealian Jordan Thompson, thus struggling more than expected. In contrast, Russia’s Daniil Medvedev and Denmark’s Holger Rune finished their first-round matches by beating two British wild cards, Arthur Fery 7-5 6-4 6-3 and George Loffhagen 7-6 6-3 6-2, respectively.

Second round also went by in a hansom cab for Poland’s world No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who rifled a narrow 6-2 6-0 win over Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo. Among the bigs, world No. 8 Maria Sakkari of Greece exited, who after winning the first set 6-0 with Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk lost the other two 7-5 6-2.
