Wimbledon 2023: yet another flop for Camila Giorgi

Another disappointment for Camila Giorgi, who was beaten in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament with a clear score of 6-2 6-4 by the newly naturalized French Russian Varvara Gracheva, world number 41, while Giorgi is 48.

A defeat that basically ripens already in the first set with Camila going down 0-5 with three breaks suffered, she recovers one but the set does not last much longer. In the second set there is only one break and it is obviously in Gracheva’s favor, in the third game.

Then it is a festival of saved break points, four by Camila and five by Gracheva, three of them in the very long last game, in which the former Russian eventually manages to close the file on the third match point after an hour and 26 minutes of play.

Sharp defeat also for Sara Errani: the 36-year-old from Romagna, world number 79, was beaten 6-3 6-1 by U.S. number 113 Madison Brengle.
