Giancarlo Fisichella hopes for Mugello’s return to F1

“And how I would love to see Formula 1 back at Mugello, I think all the F1 drivers would like it too. I don’t know the political and financial aspects and what it would take to bring the top series back here but Mugello is unique.” Speaking was former F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella about the Tuscan racetrack, which is a regular stop for the MotoGP but has hosted a race of the top car category only in 2020.

The Roman is at the Tuscan autodrome to contest the second race of the season in the Italian gran turismo endurance championship at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 of the Baldini team paired with Tommaso Mosca from Brescia. Fisichella, in addition to racing in Gt, is also following, as an observer and talent scout, a number of drivers who are competing in championships dedicated to very young recruits, real stepping stones for an eventual career in motorsport.

“We have a great driver who is growing up, Andrea Kimi Antonelli (from Bologna, 16 years old, ed.), he won Formula 4 last year and this season he is always in the top positions in Formula Regional – explained Giancarlo – I am also following some drivers who will race here at Mugello this weekend in Formula 4, we hope to see them on the podium.”
