Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz hopeful for qualifying at Silverstone

Here are the words of Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Sainz after Friday’s two free practice sessions of the British Grand Prix. The Spaniard managed to finish second behind world champion Max Verstappen, while the Monegasque, after finishing fifth in the first afternoon, had an electrical problem that did not allow him to run a single lap in the second session.

“We had a difficult Friday here at Silverstone,” Sainz said, “Free Practice 1 was not easy because of the wind and track conditions, but we completed a good program and I think that helped us progress in Free Practice 2. We are generally satisfied with today, although we obviously still have work ahead of us.

“The feeling in the car with little fuel was good, while we still have work to do to improve our race pace,” echoed Leclerc. “We hope to make progress tomorrow even though the weather conditions could be very different from today and there could be rain. Unfortunately, I could not run in the second session and that prevented me from working ahead of Sunday. Tomorrow, weather permitting, we will do the best we can with the time we have to prepare for both the race and qualifying.”
