Napoli and beyond, Paulo Sousa clarifies, “I chose Salernitana”
A clear restart, with some clarifications on the recent past.
Paulo Sousa and Salernitana are also restarting together in view of 2023-2024, but in a press conference the Lusitanian coach wanted to clarify the soccer market rumors that saw him leaving. And, Naples aside, he explained that especially abroad but not only there was no lack of opportunities. But that his decision had already been made.
“The moment I agreed to coach Salernitana, I accepted all the conditions,” Sousa explained. “They had asked me for salvation, then it was the club that had to decide whether to file the renewal for two years or break my contract. When they exercised the option it was June 10, and I never had any doubts.”
“Before then, my personal window allowed me to talk to whoever was interested. And I did so with three Italian and two French clubs. My agent, on the other hand, had contacts with Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar. However, I personally chose to stay in Salerno, because I believe in this project. In fact, I have also worked with the club to set up the retreat, schedule friendlies and prepare a competitive roster,” Sousa further clarified.
