Tears for Mirra Andreeva: 16-year-old’s fairy tale at Wimbledon ends
16-year-old Mirra Andreeva’s fairy tale at Wimbledon has come to an end. The very young Russian tennis player, christened by many as the new Sharapova, ended her splendid journey at the Championships by stopping in the round of 16 against Madison Keys of the United States.
The world No. 18 tennis player won in three sets in a comeback with the scores of 3-6, 7-6, 6-2. Andreeva (in tears at the end of the match) was one step away from victory but the tie break in the second set was decisive.
Keys will face the winner of the match between Alexandrova and Sabalenka in the quarterfinals. Andreeva made an important leap in the rankings: she is now 64th.
