Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic wins in comeback: he will be Jannik Sinner’s opponent
In semifinal Jannik Sinner finds Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic will be Jannik Sinner’s opponent in the semifinals of the Wimbledon 2023 Tournament: the Serbian champion, a seven-time winner on London’s grass as well as the holder of the trophy, beat Andrey Rublev 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3, in two hours and fifty-one minutes of play.
Rublev did not need only a very high level start, with the break in the ninth game actually allowing him to win the first set.Nole, in fact, put things back on track from his point of view in the second fraction, which he literally dominated, before rebuffing the Russian’s attempts in the following sets, which were won in a convincing if not too easy manner.
For Djokovic it is yet another appearance in the top four at a Grand Slam tournament. At Wimbledon, in particular, it will be his 12th appearance in a semifinal: his fourth consecutive year, if one considers that the 2020 edition was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
There are two precedents on the ATP circuit between Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic, both of which ended in a victory for the Serbian: in Monte Carlo, in 2021, he finished with a clear 6-4, 6-2 victory, while in Wimbledon itself, in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Tournament, Sinner managed to scare the highly-rated opponent in no small part, winning 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Fans of both athletes and tennis fans in general will have to wait until Friday, July 14, to see two of the symbols of their respective generations take the court to play for a place in the final.
