Reduced from the resounding comeback against Felix Auger-Aliassime, Matteo Arnaldi is already projected toward the second round of Roland Garros 2025, where he will face in an all-Italian derby Flavio Cobolli, Marin Cilic’s executioner. The San Remo-based tennis player will have to recover his energy after the four-and-a-half-hour marathon, while the Roman has played less than two hours.

“What can I expect? It’s a derby, it may not be a beautiful match to watch but we will both fight – said Arnaldi speaking to the microphones of ‘Eurosport‘ -I hope we can express good tennis, the rest we will see”. The match between the two is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, with time to be confirmed (in any case, not before 11 a.m.)

Turning to the match against the Canadian, Arnaldi added: “It&#8217s been a difficult match, at the beginning I didn&#8217t feel good, I had a discomfort in my shoulder. But slowly I warmed up, I managed to turn the match around when I was down a break in the third. Fighting in this way I like, these are conditions in which I can give my best”.

In the last game, Auger-Aliassime had a jolt of pride, snuffing out the Blue&#8217s first three match points. “What did I think about? I have to tell the truth, I was not thinking about anything – he explained -, I was just happy to be ahead and serve for the match. He played very well and put me in great difficulty. It’s a beautiful victory, I dedicate it to my whole team”.
