John McEnroe comments on Jannik Sinner’s form ahead of his match against Djokovic

On Friday, Jannik Sinner will face Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semifinal, and the Italian knows better than anyone that he’ll have to raise his game and do more than he has so far on the London grass.
Many tennis insiders and former players have commented on the world No. 1’s current form, and among them was American legend John McEnroe, who spoke in these terms after Sinner’s match against Struff: “He played well in the decisive moments and was ready when it counted, but he’s the first to know that there’s still a lot of work to be done.”
“Jannik can definitely raise his level of play, and in fact, I’d say he’ll have to do so if he really wants to win this tournament. Based on his performance so far, I’d give him a B+, especially for how he performed in the crucial moments of the match. He’s closing out matches, but he knows he still has work to do to make it.”
Sinner himself didn’t hold back after his victory over Struff. “I think that if I want to have a chance in the semifinals, I’ll have to raise my level a bit,” the Italian said at a press conference, adding a note of confidence: “I’m also pretty confident that I can do it. I usually enjoy the big matches even more.”
On the other side of the net will be Djokovic, fresh off an extraordinary feat: the Serb defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime in over five hours of play, in what went down in history as the longest quarterfinal ever played at Wimbledon. At 39, Nole has once again proven himself to be an extraordinary opponent, capable of raising his game at decisive moments.
