Mats Wilander in no doubt about Jannik Sinner: “He’s not done yet.”
Former Swedish champion Mats Wilander at the microphones of Eurosport spoke this way after Jannik Sinner’s defeat against Novak Djokovic in the semifinals at Wimbledon: “Jannik Sinner is the best Italian player right now. Matteo Berrettini is back great here, he is strong, but Sinner is going more and more in the right direction.”
According to Wilander, the direction taken by the San Candido athlete is the right one: “His progress has been natural. Alcaraz’s were fast, Carlos won a Slam, but Sinner is working to be like him. He’s not done yet. He is growing, putting on weight, muscle and strength.”
Sinner may not have the aggressive game of Alcaraz or Rune in his chops, but that won’t stop him, Wilander continued, “As he has grown his game has also changed: he tries to go to the net more, but I don’t think this game is as natural for Jannik as it is for Alcaraz or Rune. On the other hand, consistency comes out week after week, if he can avoid injuries.”
Sinner is currently the No. 8 ranked tennis player in the world, while he occupies the fifth position in the Atp Race and is in the running for the Turin Finals.
