Water Polo World Cup, Setterosa annihilates Argentina: 27 goals!
All scoring (goalkeepers aside) the Blue Women in the water.
The Setterosa team starts its adventure at the World Water Polo Championships in the pool of Fukuoka in the best possible way: the Italian national team led by Carlo Silipo on the poolside in fact won 27-1 against Argentina, confirming a prediction that already on the eve of the event saw the Azzuras widely favored.
All scoring, goalkeepers aside, the Azzurre in the water: four goals for Silvia Avegno, three for Chiara Tabani, Dafne Bettini, Roberta Bianconi and Valeria Palmieri, two for Lucrezia Lys Cergol, Sofia Giustini, Domitilla Picozzi, Claudia Roberta Marletta and Agnese Cocchiere, one goal for Giulia Viacava.
The lone, lone Argentine goal was scored in the first quarter by Cecilia Leonard. Nightmare day for those who had to protect the goal, first Nahir Stegmayer and then Aldana Videberrigain, but against the blue overpowering there was really nothing they could do.
“Start aside, where some tension was seen, good things were seen, the girls had fun,” coach Carlo Silipo told ‘Rai Sport’ microphones after the match. “Throughout the tournament we must not look at the value on the paper of the opponents, but look for conviction in our own team. That way we can gather all the confidence we need to get important results.”
The other match in the group also ended with a goleada: Greece won over lowly South Africa with a final score of 24-2. The South Africans will be Setterosa’s next opponents on July 18, two days after the match that will likely determine the winner of the group, between Italy and Greece.
