F1, Frederic Vasseur no-nonsense ahead of the Hungarian GP
Frederic Vasseur’s words a few days before the Hungarian GP
A few days before the Hungarian GP, Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur spoke about his feelings ahead of the Hungaroring. In addition, the former Alfa Romeo also returned to talk about the negative weekend at Silverstone.
“Starting from fourth and fifth position after qualifying, we had the feeling that we could have done a much better job. Ninth and 10th place cannot make us happy, but you have to look at the whole weekend. I think we didn’t do the long stint on Friday, we just tried the soft compound and Charles was stuck in the pits because of the electrical problems with his car,” Ferrari’s team principal began as reported by “La Gazzetta dello Sport.”
“Probably in our heads we still had the memory of the first races of the season, while at Silverstone we were too cautious about tire management and did not push hard enough. The Safety Car was not in our control, but I think we could have pushed much harder. We had much less degradation, which was the real problem at the beginning of the year. Maybe we had a lower pace than Mercedes, but there was no tire wear,” added the former Alfa Romeo.
“On paper the design of the Hungaroring should suit the characteristics of the SF-23 well, but then there is the issue of set-up, it is not enough for the package to fit the circuit. It will be crucial to arrive in Hungary with a good set-up and try to take advantage of all the sessions starting on Friday. In addition on this track it will be crucial to start at the front because it is difficult to overtake,” concluded Frederic Vasseur.
